About Hydrogen Peroxide 3% for Dogs
Hydrogen Peroxide 3% (generic name: Hydrogen Peroxide) is an over-the-counter medication in the Emergency category. It is commonly used for dogs to treat:
- Induce vomiting after toxin ingestion (EMERGENCY USE ONLY)
Dosing Notes
Up to 1 ml per pound of body weight. Maximum 45 ml (3 tablespoons) per dog. Walk briskly or create movement after giving to help induce vomiting.

Warnings
- EMERGENCY USE ONLY — call your vet or ASPCA Poison Control (888-426-4435) FIRST
- Can cause irritation to mouth, esophagus, and stomach
- Monitor for prolonged vomiting, decreased appetite, or hypersalivation after use
Do NOT Use If
- NEVER use in cats — causes severe tissue damage
- Do not use for caustic/corrosive substance ingestion (bleach, batteries, etc.)
- Do not use for sharp object ingestion
- Do not use if pet is unconscious, seizing, or having difficulty breathing

- Dogs only — NEVER for cats
- Must be 3% concentration only — higher concentrations are dangerous
